Thomas Balcom, CFP®, CAIA, MBA
Thomas Balcom, CFP®, CAIA, MBA possesses over a decade of wealth management experience. Mr. Balcom is responsible for designing investment portfolios for high net worth individuals and their families, small businesses, retirement plans, charitable organizations and corporations. He specializes in creating investment management solutions designed to accomplish the unique financial needs of each individual client. The investment methodology utilized by 1650 Wealth Management is similar to that of major endowments and institutions and incorporates the use of multiple asset classes that possess low or negative correlation. The use of numerous uncorrelated asset classes is designed to improve the risk/return parameters of clients portfolios.
Mr. Balcom is the founder of 1650 Wealth Management. Prior to founding 1650 Wealth Management in 2010, Mr. Balcom spent the prior 10 years at an investment management firm in Miami, Florida where he served as portfolio manager, investment committee member and head trader. Mr. Balcom chose to found 1650 Wealth Management since it allows him and his colleagues to objectively create portfolios for their clients without being influenced by internal mandates or commission schedules.
In addition to working with his clients, Mr. Balcom serves as a Board Member for Financial Planning Association of Greater Fort Lauderdale and as an adjunct professor for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) program at Barry University. He was the recipient of the 2008 Structured Product Associations Leading Edge Advisor award. Tom and his family currently reside in Lighthouse Point, Florida.

David W. Austin, CFP®
David W. Austin, CFP, is a fee-only financial and investment advisor and a Certified Financial Planner licensee, having completed the coursework from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, and received the CFP designation from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in 1984. His areas of specialty include investment portfolio design and management, pre- and post-retirement planning, tax planning, and estate planning.
Mr. Austin is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and has been active in the financial services industry since 1972. For over 30 years he has provided comprehensive financial planning and investment advisory services to individuals, trusts, pensions, and charitable organizations. He is a former Vice President of a major, international insurance company, and has conducted over 500 seminars on capital creation and personal financial management throughout the United States.
In 1986, he formed Austin Financial Advisers, Inc., a Registered Investment Advisor, to provide comprehensive financial planning and investment advisory services to a wide variety of individuals, organizations, and qualified retirement plans. From 1992 to 2000, he was a senior financial advisor with Kathleen Day & Associates (now The Enrichment Group), and in 2000, he merged his practice with Foldes Financial Management, LLC. In 2010, he joined 1650 Wealth Management as a senior financial advisor.
Mr. Austin is a member of the international Financial Planning Association, and as an independent, fee-only financial advisor, he custodies all client assets through the Institutional division of Charles Schwab & Company. He has written for various publications including The Miami Herald, Registered Investment Advisor, Financial Services Week, Financial Product News, Mutual Funds Magazine, and Bloomberg’s Wealth Manager. Mr. Austin was a featured speaker on Risk Management at the South Florida Financial Planning Symposium Expo ‘91 in Miami, and an expert panelist on mutual fund investing for the WLRN-TV series “Financial Fitness”. He is a former adjunct faculty member of Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and the National Center for Financial Services Training in New York, New York, having taught the Certified Financial Planner Certificate Program for both institutions.
